The body knows first, only always
I am tired today.
Really tired.
So were my people.
I feel compressed today.
So did my students.
I am on week 2 of leading a 4 Week Build Your Home Practice Program.
I found my old self trying to push through,
Inspire beyond my threshold,
Set fire under students’ feet,
When I don't even want fire under mine.
It’s not what I'm feeling.
It’s not honoring what my body needs.
Today another part of me stepped in.
Before practice, I unmuted everyone and asked, how are you feeling?
On a scale of 0% energy to 100% ramped up, how are you feeling today?
Answers trickled in: 50%, 30%, I’m so exhausted…
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that people need rest.
Our nervous systems are on chronic overload.
Today we acknowledged that enough is going on personally and collectively.
So I taught differently.
I taught exactly how I would practice if I wasn’t filming for 98 people.
I shared how one may
ADJUST PRACTICE SO IT WORKS FOR YOU
With intuition
Rhythm
Structure
I wasn’t planning on doing this, but it happened.
I’m that tired,
That clear in my knowing,
That honest in my practice.
One of the biggest reasons I still practice to this day
Is because I learned when to say enough.
Enough food,
Enough drink,
Enough of these toxic relationships
With people,
Practices,
And ideologies passed on as Absolute Truth.
Enough glorifying the pushing, the dissociating, the forcing.
Enough thinking that one needs to practice, practice, practice to the point where we’re drained, overworked, and exhausted.
Don’t get me wrong.
I love this practice.
I teach this practice.
I am growing with this practice.
But don’t get it twisted,
I’m living from a different place within myself;
The part of me that understands
Without a doubt:
The body knows first,
only always.
